Oregon Names UTSA's Will Stein as Offensive Coordinator
jrw replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
This would indicate that Lanning is not playing it safe with an established name, and would seem to also indicate that Lanning is the decision maker in picking his assistants, for better or worse. I like the trend to younger coaches: new ideas, and better connections to the players makes sense to me. The game is changing in many ways; time to get new, youthful thinking on the sidelines. That said, Stein better be good. -
Charles, you know that the scholar-athletes at the University of Academic Prowess play only for the love of the game, a first-class degree, and the general benefit of humankind. The thought of monetary compensation never enters their uncorrupted minds. How churlish of you to even suggest otherwise.

Is a "Bandwagon" Fan Still an Oregon Fan?
jrw replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The word fan is derived from fanatic, and fanatics don’t let bad times stop them from staying attached to their team. Criticizing if need be, cheering when possible, but staying attached. I sure ain't going anywhere. But, casual followers come and go, depending on won-loss records, and as Log Haulin says, those folks are needed, because fanatics are not numerous enough to keep the money flowing. Except maybe in Alabama. -
Wondering if Dillingham's impressive talents and abilities as an OC will make life hard for Baldwin.

Snaps don't lie, I guess...about who the coaches think should play. Justin Flowe, only 178 out of 816 possible, for example. Bradyn Swinson even fewer. Oregon Football: Biggest notes from season-long usage report for Ducks DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Time for a deep-dive into the 2022 usage report for the Ducks. Dont'e Thornton Leaving the Ducks, Going to the Portal
jrw replied to Duckman1's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Well, that's one I wouldn't have predicted. But, I think this is what off-seasons will look like, for players, for coaches - who knows what else - as we enter the brave new world of college football. Change will be the constant, more than ever before. -

It is difficult to make predictions, especially about the future. - Attributed to Danish politician Karl Kristian Steincke. -

Despite OSU Loss, Oregon Football’s Future is Bright
jrw replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
It's clear, to me at least, that the world of college football has become much more volatile. Fundamentally, it's down to changes in the way money is distributed. With NIL, the transfer portal, the salaries thrown at coaches, the money no longer stays with the schools and the bowls and the NCAA; it's flowing in part now to players and coaches, which in theory at least, is preferable to me. Now, players and coaches make and change decisions at the drop of a stack of cash, turning around programs in a heartbeat. Look north at Washington to see that. Look at U$C. This period of change and chaos probably won't last; some structure will evolve to replace the old one. But, for now, if your team is having a good season, cherish it, because it may not last very long. Conversely, snag a few good players from the portal, throw big money at a new coach, and Bob's your uncle. I guess that, at least, we won't have years of the same 4-6 teams always at the top. -
Good, talk me off the ledge.

Another season is coming and end with bad losses, coaches leaving, players undisciplined and unfocused, poor coaching decisions, unhappy fans. After Taggart and Cristobal, I was hoping for some continuity and positivity, which we saw for most of the season. But now, maybe not? Is this just the new normal in college football?

Mario has long left the building. Time to stop blaming him when things go wrong.
