Bo Nix and Dante Moore: Did Lanning Do it Right?
jrw replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Wait, did I miss something? Has Moore actually announced his decision? -
Everyone gather around the campfire to sing The Ballad of Bo Nix.

Seems like he really enjoys playing in Eugene, as compared to the unfair expectations and pressure heaped on him at Auburn. OTOH, there's the perspective that he's extorting the Ducks with his lack of decision on whether to return for another season. Oregon Football: How QB Collin Schlee’s UCLA commitment impacts Ducks DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM UCLA landed QB Collin Schlee in the transfer portal on Saturday. What does that mean for Oregon when it comes to Dante Moore?

Chaotic Transfer Portal is Destroying College Football
jrw replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I think that once players see the statistics on their odds of a successful transfer - competition level, scholarship - this current madness will settle down, in terms of numbers of players entering the portal. Could take several years. But, I think the chances of tampering via back-channel communications will go up, and transfer deals will be made in advance, with NIL money being thrown around as the inducement. Or, rules will be put in place that will slow things down. There is still an NCAA, isn't there? That could take a few years, too. And again, I don't blame the players. Look at the coaches, their supposed role models. Coaches are out the door the minute they smell a better offer, leaving behind a contract, recruits, fellow coaches, and fans. Why is a player to blame when Kenny Dillingham is considered simply making a rational decision to take a better job? -
I disagree with that. He, and most of the other recruits, are simply looking to find the best avenue for themselves. Some may be scamming, sure, but not the vast majority. Likely that Moore had doubts when Dillingham left, which is valid. Would you say Dillingham has integrity issues? After all, he probably signed a contract and left, not just went back on a verbal commitment. I don't think it's fair to expect high school kids to have loyalty to a school they've never attended, when the example they're shown by the coaches is that's all for one, and all for one.
-
Interesting, one of the commentators said OSU has just one player in the portal.
-
Gotta disagree. I think most commitments are honored by recruits. It's just the few big, emotional dramas, like Dante Moore, that grab our attention. I'll wager that most of the Ducks' commits come in as promised. Most kids and their families have gone through a long-term evaluation process and aren't likely to change their minds at the last minute once they've made what is a major life decision.

Oregon Recruiting: 5-star QB Dante Moore expected to flip to UCLA DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM According to 247Sports’ @SWiltfong247, all of the tea leaves show that 5-star QB Dante Moore is going to end up at UCLA, not Oregon. But then, there's this. 2024’s No. 1 recruit Dylan Raiola decommits from Ohio State 247SPORTS.COM The latest here.

BOOM! S Tyler Turner Signed...Start Practice Prior to Bowl Game
jrw replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
From following that Tweeter link, it appears that Jurrion Dickey has arrived in Eugene for the weekend, a good sign. -
The best thing about the actual football-playing season is that we deal in facts: passing yards, rushing attempts, wins, losses, that sort of thing. The off-season? Rumors, speculation, opinions, predictions, innuendo...how about a 12-month season?

I notice that he is the "Director of Football" in the press release. Why not the Leland Stanford Jr. University Head of the Department of Football Studies? Sounds much better than "coach".

Oregon Taking Portal Transfers is VERY Risky Business
jrw replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The length-of-scholarship rule is significant. We are in the wild west days of the portal; it will probably take a few years until it becomes clear how it really works for both players and programs. Just a guess, but it probably will calm down as both sides start to see the downsides. -
Wouldn’t Count on Jurrion Dickey’s Commitment

Our Kinda Guys. In Seattle, guys with prowess. -
A package deal to Eugene for DJ and that brother of his would be nice. Family values.

Tru dat. I grew up in Illinois, and I could only dream about Southern California in December. Think they're using the likely BIG move to entice him? Live in Southern California, but play close to home, does have an appeal to it.

People are Pretty Selfish: Should I Continue the OBD Forum?
jrw replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
This, Log Haulin. I too feel that having to think about what I say and how I say it has made be a better person, which is an admittedly low bar. I've tried to behave the same way in other arenas. And, I've learned a lot about football, too. -

Read an article in The Athletic about ATM and all the 5-stars they bought recruited. As we all know, things did not work out as boasted about; numerous suspensions and inabilities to adjust to college life. ATM has had 20 players scurry to the portal so far, nearly double what Oregon has had. -
An Honest Transfer Posting...What Do You Think?
jrw replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Seeing that Mike Leach is a toxic nutcase, I'm totally supportive of what the young man had to say. I don't think his statement will hurt him, as I'm sure every other program is aware of what Mike Leach is. -

I will praise Charles and this forum to no end. I'm fairly well immersed in internet culture, where the bad always drives out the good, and the comments, like water, always seek the lowest level. The forum is unique. And, it is so only because Charles and the mods (and the software) enforce the rules, and keep it a pleasant place to be. Remember, this forum is not the public square; it's Mr. FishDuck's house. If he doesn't like loudmouth idiots acting like jerks in his house, he throws them out. They can act like jerks outside, somewhere else, it's not their house. That's not censorship, it's being a good host. I couldn't do what Mr. FishDuck does; his effort and patience are beyond me. -
Canzano: Transfer Game Laced with Misguided Frustration
jrw replied to NJDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I think I need help when I find myself agreeing 100% with John Canzano. Let's face it, modern college football is pretty rotten from top to bottom. I choose to look the other way, I guess, but when you have a system overflowing with money that's based on the efforts of teenagers and young men, you're gonna have a lot of problems. Maybe NIL and the portal are the beginnings of improvement. -
In theory, a big loss. In practice? Not so much.
