  1. Agreed, there are a lot reasons for excitement this off-season, stemming from the hiring of Lanning. I think he looks like the real deal. But, Lanning has never been a HC before; being a good, effective boss can be difficult. He has to get an entire new group of assistants, many of whom are new to their jobs, working as a team (and some of these assistants have had - um - issues in previous jobs). He has a lot to learn, and so do a lot of his assistants. I would expect the occasional hiccup over the coming year, but more from an excess of energy and enthusiasm than from anything else. It will be much better than the dull, plodding, draft-horse style of the Cristobal administration. Unleash the Kraken!
  2. Dollars is now back in, but now Benson is out.
  3. Not optimistic on Moss...all the crystal balls foresee Miami.
  4. It's what happens when you put a Husky in charge.
  5. Who are these Huskies I keep hearing about?
  6. Not shocking, but dang. Jahlil Florence says Ducks still in his top 5.
  7. The Forum With Decorum is great! It’s the Board Without Discord.
  8. Dan Lanning must sleep even less than Charles Fischer.
  9. I think this is true of all sports; great players do not make good coaches. Elite players, as players, relied on their innate abilities. Elite players as coaches, cannot deal with the "ordinary" player and those players' needs for development. Those who need to study the game in order to succeed, can teach it. Plus, coaching is time-consuming and not flashy. Not to mention, all that happens is that you eventually get fired.
  10. College football is in total flux. Where it comes out is anyone’s guess.
  11. Washington fans seem to think that Husky players and coaches have bent the knee, taken a blood oath, and sworn lifetime fealty to the program. A strange sense of entitlement, if you ask me. Players and coaches come and go; get over it.
  12. Cole Martin..."tabbed by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 9 cornerback and No. 88 prospect overall in the 2023 class."
  13. Xs and Os, or Jimmys and Joes?
  14. Who knows if this matters? I guess we'll find out, once the inevitable everything-Lanning-is-great honeymoon period is over. Right now, I think the enthusiasm for Lanning and (especially) his hires is a bit higher than warranted.
  15. Don't forget the current 0-5 SEC bowl record.
  16. Do Husky fans pay as much attention to their team as they do to the Ducks?
  17. Charles, I would err on the side of civility, decorum, and politeness in any decisions you make. Those things are what separate OBD from pretty much every other comment section on the interwebs. Doing so still leaves plenty of room for honesty and criticism. It's usually not what people say, but how they say it that causes problems. If people want to act like jerks, there are plenty of places that will welcome them. Don't let them be that guy here.
  18. 14, 107, 185, 2, 2
  19. I love Husky schadenfreude as much as the next person, but players jumping into the portal is happening everywhere, even in Eugene. Not good to get too smug.
  20. Canzano is still flogging the former-player letter that he leaked, without context or elaboration. Get over it, John.
  21. Lots of negative comments from Texas folks.
  22. If anything on Reddit can be trusted, Mehringer may have some baggage.
  23. What USC, UCLA, Oregon and the rest of the PAC12 face going forward is not just little things like the legacy of Larry Scott and bad scheduling. It's a cultural issue. College football in the West is just not as big a thing as it is in the Midwest and South. That shows itself in the game-day crowds, how many kids play high-school ball, what college presidents prioritize, and on and on and on. It's a deep-rooted difference between parts of the country that isn't going to be changed by - probably - anything. Oregon has a chance because it has created a unique brand that, with work, can still attract players, coaches and fans. Mario did his best to kill it, but didn't succeed. Lanning has a chance, but it will depend on the Oregon brand continuing to be distinctive and successful.
  24. Did any Ducks enter the portal at halftime?
  25. Good catch...I haven't seen him and he's usually pretty visible.
