  1. Does anyone else feel as Oregon Sports gets further into tournaments that the "Character" of Oregon Sports are losing the luster or appeal. I would love to have seen, Sabrina lead the lady Ducks to a high level in basketball. The Men's Basketball team also. Although I am not sure I am so thrilled with the one year "individuals". Those that have no true investment in the school or programs in which they participate. The Football team seems to be heading that way too. Sad, really, that College sports is turning into "Pro Sports" league of sorts. Leaves a bad taste in the mouth. I had a better time going with the wife and her twin sister to our kids HS Football Rivalry game. I enjoyed the game, the kids in the stands the band and the game atmosphere. The parents helping with fund raising, supporting the other under funded activities.
  2. As I do not follow the MBB as much, I think that Pritchard was the last to really put in the full (?) four years. As for the WBB, I am a bit surprised that the (?) 2020 class when they had the five- 5 Star Recruits, losing one to UCLA the following year, is struggling. I would have expected better from kids that played at a higher "League" level in High School, as is true for most of the "one and done" men players. Also, the portal for MBB was different from the collegiate Football Portal, was it not? Prior, in football you had to sit out a year, am I wrong? The main reason for my interest in College sports was more the "TEAM" aspect from the pro's, in either basketball or football. Sadly, it seems it is getting harder to know the difference anymore.
  3. I remember when Barner got knocked out at WSU. Was very sad to see such an electric runner, get hammered, wondering would he ever get back on the field after a hit like that. He surprised and delighted us all to step up to the plate and had a wonderful year after LMJ moved on to the NFL. So proud of him and he had such a great year out of the shadow of LMJ. What a humble guy in my opinion.
  4. I am not totally up to speed on either of the Men's or Women's Basketball teams. But I have been under the impression that most of the the teams, men's specifically, have "one and done" players that play major roles. So it seems difficult to almost impossible to build, a team over the long haul as you would with players looking to play "four years" at the school.
  5. I am a bit surprised that the Men's and Women's Basketball Teams have No real Identity or consistent play. They seem to be hit and miss, relying on the few "super stars" on the team. When they have some great talent and transfers in their midst. These are good to great talents, not just offensively but solid defensive players. Where is the drive and Type "A" personalities that made them great. Top Players understand they are only as good as those around them. MJ did not win his first NBA title just because he was the star. He won because the talent around him understood their roles and the strength of the TEAM. They had a coach that understood who was the key and how to get the best out of them all. But I could be wrong and my wife says, I usually am.
  6. Who ever is the Starting QB, earn your spot. Build chemistry by being the best you can be, competition builds better players. You never know when your number will be called. You do not get better by playing down to your opponents, Oregon proved this through out the 2021/22 season. Scraping by, hides your teams flaws. Utah, exposed that to everyone, TWICE! If Mario believed Iron sharpens Iron, he failed to prove that, IMHO.
  7. 30 Duck, Thanks for pointing out the obvious, that was not too obvious to me, sigh, smh in shame. Too many hits from Freshman and Sophomore years of Football, old age, blame my kids, world disorder. Running out of excuses but plain stupidity, My bad. Thanks for being kind to an old guy, one of many excuses.
  8. What does NFT stand for, sorry for my ignorance, I am not hip with todays TLL, Three Letter Lingo.
  9. I hope I am not going out of bounds here. Really just trying to have a conversation. History, is our past, it is not always good but it show us there are other ways to succeed. The U of Oregon gets many of its athletes outside its own boundaries, this is why it is important to ask why some come to the U of Oregon and others do not. Education, sports may not be the only thing some students or athletes are drawn to the Ducks. Others may not find Oregon diverse enough. I hope that the majority of student/athletes that came to Eugene, Oregon or the Ducks found it a worth while life experience. That "our" past does not have to be our future.
  10. I feel like we give him too much press, Oregon just needs to move on from him. His time here had some good memories and we should cherish those and build better, moving forward.
  11. So, if MC had utilized the talent at his disposal, he would still be our coach, I look forward to better team management than when MC was here. Thank You Dan Lanning for taking the leadership role at Oregon and giving us some hope of team development and trusting your choices.
  12. I believe that the transfer portal gives you talent that has college experience. The training, conditioning, strengthening that a majority of HS kids lack. For some programs that need immediate help, depth, this is important in the short term. It also allows for most recruits to be developed physically and mentally to a program. Without having to throw them into the fire right away. With the list of ALL the people who are on Schollie but not with the team when we went to the Alamo Bowl, have we figured out exactly what is the Status of our team. Those injured/rehabs, not with team due to Academics, Punishment, Personal? Someone said we had used many walk ons to fill roles and depth. I have not seen source. The List before games was a reprint with not much change, even of those injured or that left the program, if I recall correctly. Maybe, someone, has info to give us better insight into our depth going into 2022 spring practice?
  13. I remember when we thought the Best thing Slick did for us was bring us Mario. Then Mario brings Oregon three top ten classes in a row and does not damage Justin Herbert for the NFL. Finally Miami, takes Mario back home so that we can get a Head Coach that can develop the talent brought to Oregon. Not easy being a HC that doesn't know what he is doing and taking his act back home. Wish him luck, cause he needs it. As far as our new Oregon Head Coach, I look forward to seeing action and Dan Lanning setting the Bar High.
  14. Many talked about Dan Lanning having the Coaching Chops and Character to follow him as a New Head Coach. How many people put their professional lives and personnel lives in the hands of an Unproven Head Coach. You see the problems Mario had in keeping staff with him to Miami. I look forward to how the next TWO years play out for our Ducks. Then let the DL Coaching tree bear fruit. But I see some good solid coaches for Oregon, 3 to 7 years for a few as they build their reputations. Loved the 10 minutes of let's get to know the Oregon Staff.
  15. Catnip, it's an expensive habit! Nice Charles. You find the funny ones.
  16. Love Utah and Whittingham. They play hard, are coached up and very solid team. Sometimes just getting away from home is such a cool thing. Going into the military, Not so much, lol!
  17. Everyone, was blaming Arroyo, then Moorhead was being ridiculed. I saw the game when the booing was going on, so hard to believe but if that doesn't motivate you to change, you have reaped what you sowed.
  18. He did his best to destroy Oregon, recruited all that window dressing while he let the talent starve. Let him get sunburnt, feel the salt water and let us move on. Let Willie 2.0 go, just let out a big sigh of relief and remain calm.
  19. Sometimes, you just have to shake your head and smile about our changing world. SMH.
  20. We will find out, if the Head Coach, picked good asst coaches. Asst Coaches who have built relationships with HS Coaches who recognize those "under the radar" grinders that are often overlooked. I would rather have a low star grinder who has talent, some potential but needs someone to develop them. I am tired of the star chasers. Oregon has had many that did not shine bright for long. Lache Seastrunk/Transfer, Kirk Merritt/Transfer, Colt Lyerla/Kicked Off team, Thomas Tyner/Medical Retirement, Canton Kaumatule/Medical Retirement, Cliff Harris/Kicked Off team. Just some of the high four star and five star talent in the last fifteen years that did not finish with Oregon. Oregon has done much better with less in the hands of good teachers. To me, this is Oregon Football at its best compared to any other school. From what I have seen, there are some three star prospects I look forward to seeing how they develop. Will be a interesting year, to say the least.
  21. I, for one, do not expect him to be great, at everything. I hope, he is great at forming a mission statement and having asst coaches who are great teachers, allowing those he hires to meet his expectations and goals. Tossing around Co Coordinators titles around sounds like, the political side of coaching or trying to meet payroll expectations. But if he is a good CEO, he will attract many coaches and athletes to Oregon. And I am ok with that.
  22. Once a Duck, always a Duck. He gave his best for four years, recently engaged to his girlfriend back home. Thanks for all you did for Oregon, the Dye family will be remembered. But should Oregon and USC meet, I will be cheering on the Ducks. Best Wishes moving forward.
  23. Smith 72, I was laughing as that posted. You got a camera in my office? Nice.
  24. Jon, That was an informative article. You voice your concern with "Not Just Complaining" but one persons well thought out alternative solution to a complicated problem. Things are getting out of control and NOT just in College Sports. Love the people that come here to have a discussion and present some form of a solution. I would agree with your "Take Back the Rose Bowl" Alliance. Nice job Jon, Well Done.
