  1. Once a Duck, always a Duck. He gave his best for four years, recently engaged to his girlfriend back home. Thanks for all you did for Oregon, the Dye family will be remembered. But should Oregon and USC meet, I will be cheering on the Ducks. Best Wishes moving forward.
  2. Smith 72, I was laughing as that posted. You got a camera in my office? Nice.
  3. Jon, That was an informative article. You voice your concern with "Not Just Complaining" but one persons well thought out alternative solution to a complicated problem. Things are getting out of control and NOT just in College Sports. Love the people that come here to have a discussion and present some form of a solution. I would agree with your "Take Back the Rose Bowl" Alliance. Nice job Jon, Well Done.
  4. Charles or Moderators, Dan Lanning or Mario Cristobal have gone further, than previous HC Staffs, bringing in more technical staff to help the Field Coaches assess talent or corrections? Or is this a full blown class room/technical adviser staff to help break down film and make recommendations to Field Staff about what they see and options. I like the idea of having staff to help do the footwork of evaluation of future talent. Breaking down film for recruits with some mentoring and guidance. The closest I recall Chip Kelly doing was nutrition specialist, for upkeep of players bodies, hydration and monitoring. The game is getting more complicated but the advances in technology is making this more attainable for teams.
  5. David, I was thinking the same thing, especially after he BOLTED! Leavitt, Avalos and DeRuyter leaving so quickly, something was wrong with the leadership at the top. Did he have these same issues at FIU? The way it went this year with the thin wins and the booing at the game, Mario's demeanor changed alot.
  6. Charles, I always felt that the DC Leavitt before Avalos was the guy who got the defense back in shape and Avalos had it easier because of Leavitts mentoring the defense. Leavitts, attempts at leaving Oregon for another HC position is what angered Mario who finally parted ways, fired, him. Not to long, less than two years, Avalos had an opportunity to leave and he took it. Joe Moorhead and DeRuyter bailing, should be red flags too. The fact that DeRuyter got another DC position so fast after the Conference Championship game, should tell you things were not so good at Oregon with Cristobals leadership, IMHO. And I agree with kirklandduck, having a more aggressive offense, helps the defense to take chances. When I saw DL defense, a 4-2-5, I thought, here we go again. I am not a fan but if the do not set two safeties back and have a Rover/LB like Bassa you can do alot more to cover the middle that killed us all year. We had some highly rated four star corners that did a lot of zones and soft coverage. We did not challenge like the year we won the Rose Bowl, Brady Breeze was the perfect example of getting physical with receivers in their routes prior to the ball being passed.
  7. I do not care so much about the rankings as I do the Development and End Results. What do I want, a 2021 Alamo Bowl loss with 3 top ten class, 2021, 2020, 2019 and the 13th ranked 2018 class of recruits playing. A win at the 2020 Rose Bowl with the 7th ranked 2019, 13th ranked 2018, 19th ranked 2017 and the 27th ranked 2016 classes. You either coach up your kids or hope your kids play up to their rankings. Just so you know. The Oregon Helfrich lead Team that faced the Ohio State in the 2015 first CFP CG had the following recruiting rankings 2014- #21, 2013- #19, 2012- #14 and 2011- #12. The Oregon Chip lead Team that faced Auburn in the old BCS CG had the following recruiting rankings 201- #12, 2009- #30, 2008- #34, 2007- #14. These Teams did more with less. They Coached up players beyond their stars. I hope Dan Lanning looks at this and sees, it HAS been done. High caliber players with the right Coaches and of course the RIGHT Head Coach, can do a lot at Oregon even with lower ranked classes. Show me any team at the same level as Oregon that has done this well.
  8. I for one, believe part of being a "Teacher", is for coaches to guide or mentor young impressionable men, in how to act responsibly in life. There are kids who get involved in sports to help guide them away from trouble and to use up that young energy. Getting instruction in how to play in a social atmosphere is important to getting along, following direction, to learn to be a part of something. We help by reaching out and setting the examples and guidance for them to become better contributors in our community. Some do not always learn, but they need to see they have options and help to guide them to better decisions. In the case of Bru, it maybe enabling him and that we do not want to have happen. We have had years of that kind of locker room for the Trail (Jail) Blazers and it is not easy to clean up. Was it Texas or Baylor that had that kind of mess going on in their program?
  9. I am excited to SEE kids who may not make the HS Circus Circuit that is the ESPN 24/7 evaluations get some hard working kids who need the MENTORS that develop young kids into Young Men. Diamonds in the rough. Yes Please, Coach Lanning! The student athletes leaving in the portal, reflects a lack of character on the young men bailing on a team that should be working HARD to keep the foundation of T E A M intact. Not the coaches, your brothers who are in the trenches with you. Lets build the TEAM, not a bunch of me first guys.
  10. How he left, what he said, moving on was a Fresh Start for Mycah. I enjoyed his outgoing personality. Watched his YT channel with his GF Maddie, they both are very good athletes to U of O. My older sister has attended many games and was telling me all the positives of the Lady Ducks. His blog of the team was of the locker room and the work up to game day. Things changed, so IMHO, the move was necessary. Good advice from Dillingham.
  11. Was not Mells the former HS Team mate of a player just signed during the December Signing Period? Anthony Jones, who flipped from Texas? And why would he not try to get coached up from his three star status to maybe being better than he was and becoming greater. Just sayn.
  12. Are you making this like Prettier? I thought I was Already Pretty. Pretty Awesome! Thanks for cleaning me up for the public; )
  13. Football, is not JUST FOOTBALL at Oregon, IMHO, it is where coaches "see" talent that YOU did not know you had. Show you that your skills with some good coaching fundamentals and encouragement make YOU better than you could ever imagine. Put in the Time, Effort and follow direction you could leave Oregon better than when YOU came in. Cliff Harris, Colt Lyerla, were some of the most TALENTED guys, that came to Oregon and could not get away from the Demons that would follow them in life. Jeremiah Masoli, Legarrette Blount had great skills but managed to change enough to have successful football careers by maturing. Oregon to me, is the school that made young kids into men through great coaching mentors. I hope to see more of these success stories than watch the ones where we lose the Uncle Cliffys or the Lyerlas. I for one, had a mentor, that was honest and told me if continued down the path I was going, I would find it much harder to get right. I just want to see these guys shine, in life. Show that destiny is up to you, getting out of your own way sometimes.
  14. He reminds me of Johnny Football, except that when you see him throw the 50/50 ball it usually ended up in the hands of our opponents. Manziel ran until he could fling it to one of many great receivers. AB good luck where ever you go in life. Keep your head up high but when you finally get pulled from the game, make a life for yourself. Thanks for what you did bring to the table, here , at Oregon.
  15. "Looks like" evolution of the game. Gaming by committee, you have the Field Coaches and the Class Room Coaches. You have the staff recruiters, the ones that do the research on a recruit. The coaching staff, the ones doing the field coaching. Part of me likes this idea because of the time limits put on student athletes and coaches. Chip used to just do reps on the field and corrections in the class room due to the field limitations. Add in strength and conditioning then School, study, etc. . . . What I hope this will bring is the development of the lesser athlete and fine tune the better athletes. That coaches will grow and excel and Oregon becomes a school for putting players in the NFL and those that seek it, in a professional job in the real world. Not everyone will meet their dreams but becoming better than who you started out, is just as important. Best wishes Dan Lanning, go win us some Nattys with a lil Not yo Cheese for guys like uncle cliffy.
  16. Laughing my ass off Charles. When you look in the mirror do you have many cuts from trying to keep a straight face? Love it!
  17. I wish him the BEST of Luck where ever he hangs his shingle. He brought Oregon, excitement at a point a minute. He made most schools, get glasses and a respirator. He made colleges play like world soccer teams, faking injuries to get a breather. He made coaches get glasses caused by the BLUR. But most of all, he had a ton of teachers who developed talent to take Oregon to the National Title game twice in less than 10 years through a great foundation. I believe it proves Oregon has a solid foundation with the Right Coach to play some Championship Level Football and win some titles.
  18. His play at TE, was outstanding in 2020. He looked like Colt Lyerla, catching and running with the ball. But as a blocking/kick out TE is where he excelled from Lyerla. Then bouncing back to DL, I would let him go both ways. He has that kind of talent. I hope he has a highlight reel season in 2022/23. He and Dorlus, I am excited to see owning opposing offenses this fall. I do hope that DL will make the Defense more 4-3-4 with a Rover/LB/SS like Bassa, like to see him at 235-240 to take on those TE in the middle.
  19. If he brings the thunder to the field, everyone will forget this storm. The athletes before KT, let their actions do the talking. Had the "Type A" personalities and the habits to back them up. KT seems to me, to be intelligent, will work his way out of the NFL into a lucrative job, broadcasting, managing talent, not waiting for the wheels to fall off of an NFL Career. Good for him, just remember, where you came from and give back to those with your time and knowledge. Kids need mentors and good ones. Best wishes KT.
  20. Saban understands it takes a lot of showing up every day. Letting your guard down or not having your head in the game affects the team. This makes me respect him so much more. Two star players, taking responsibility for their parts on letting down the team. Bad timing for a major injury but Bama, has three if not four deep, that would, could start for most FBS schools. Georgia came with the Heat and kept the pressure on.
  21. It was like watching a SOCCER FLOP, pathetic at best. But since the guy was in a different time zone as where the ball went, I shut it off, terrible call. Reminded me why I quit watching the NFL.
  22. With Quality Coaching, we will see if Oregon lays a third egg with Utah. First objective, is get players on the field. Get them coached up and then PLAY FOOTBALL. This last part has been lacking. Looking forward to some playing up to opponents, getting a great lead. Then getting some young guns some game reps, building depth and owning our opponents.
  23. Man, I sure miss this guy. He was a mentor to SO MANY! Your hollering to the Shining stars but he had a lot of Players in his groups. Some may not have shined as Bright as the ones you called out but Gary Campbell made them men. A few I can name Dante Rosario, Remene Alston Jr., Andre Crenshaw, Ayele Forde, Byron Marshall, Kenny Bassett, Thomas Tyner, Kani Benoit, Tony Brooks-James, Taj Griffin, Charles Nelson. Now many of these players, did not grab the attention of the ones that had been mentioned but they still wowed and often made some great plays when on the field. Thomas Tyner made the playoff game against FSU memorable, highly rated recruit that eventually took a medical retirement from Oregon. Dante Rosario, who moved to TE and excelled, joining the NFL, cause he kept on growing. Marshall and Nelson who became hybrid running back receivers with very memorable moments for Oregon. Benoit, Alston Jr, Griffin, Brooks James, all wonderful athletes when the opportunity to play came their way but with too many talented players above them. There was just not enough balls to be handed out, time for all of them to find their niche. But all of them were students of Campbell and became better men. Thanks Coach Campbell for ALL you have done for Oregon. So many exciting players, excelled under your tutelage.
  24. So if you believe in a Higher Power, Not named Mario or Goodell, you can see that fate, sure, let him be average in skill level in college with poor evaluations from the talking heads in sports. Once on his own to train and have opportunities to showcase his knowledge and skills to be picked up by a team whom he admired as a youth. Destiny. Opportunity. Character. He is doing it as a leader of a team with a lot of good parts, team mates and coaching. May he have a long and successful career.
  25. I just love how FSU self destructed and we just picked up the pieces. The Jimbo and Jameis show was epic. Sadly, we would have our FSU moment against TCU the following year. Karma, smh.
