  1. He may get to play early in Chapel Hill, but he’s going to one of the dullest atmospheres I have ever experienced. Their stadium empties out at halftime no matter the score or the opponent. Even when they had good teams with Howell and Maye at QB their crowd sucked. You could actually hear the opposing QB calling his audibles as if he was only a few feet away. I’m sure the price was right, but flipping from OSU to UNC only makes sense on the hardwood. The football team will always be little brother on that campus.
  2. The dagger to the heart of the Helfrich era was 70-21. It was inexcusable. He could've taken Oregon to a bowl game that year and still would've gotten fired. However, his lack of leadership was evident during his first season. Under Chip, Oregon had never been blown out. Helf managed to lose at least one game in blowout fashion every year he was at Oregon. 2013 (Arizona), 2014 (Ohio State), 2015 (Utah), 2016 (take your pick).
  3. Some of the uniforms of 2015/2016 had major "Jump the Shark" vibes. Obviously, the two you mentioned as well as the gray "blue collar" Radcliffe uniforms and the Webfoots.
  4. I agree. I always liked the “Belotti Bold” font on the 2006-2011 jerseys.
  5. He was good at finding QB’s. He found Mariota and he went after Adams as a grad transfer. Both great Oregon QB’s. I’ll also give him credit for Herbert even though it took Ryan Kelly’s de-commitment for Helf to offer him a scholarship. Otherwise, Herbert would’ve probably been a Bobcat. BTW, Ryan Kelly never recorded a college stat.
  6. I think we and the pundits try to anticipate classic trap games. They usually take place before a rivalry or the venue and game time benefit the underdog. This is why we all thought Oregon stood a good chance of losing to Wisconsin. I think classic trap Good point. We and the pundits try to anticipate them, but they often catch us by surprise. It's not always looking ahead, either. Sometimes the underdog puts forth their best game. The 2019 Oregon Arizona State game comes to mind. The Ducks got caught looking ahead to the rivalry game, but it also turns out that ASU had a lot of talent (Daniels, Aiyuk, etc.) that finally started to gel toward the end of the season.
  7. I agree that Vandy probably wasn't. They lost that one because they had just beaten UGA and though they could relax a little. I think they lost to OU because they were looking ahead to the Iron Bowl. Auburn almost beat them the year prior, and they were still in line for a playoff spot until OU ended their hopes.
  8. Bama thought they could take a couple of Saturdays off last year and they ended up losing to Vandy and a very average Oklahoma team. Ohio State thought they could take the Michigan game off last year to get ready for the B1G championship game. Oregon thought they had the Rose Bowl locked up in 2013 until they got hammered by a 6-4 Arizona team. It happens all the time.
  9. I clicked on the link and just found a story about Dan Lanning. I was expecting a story about Frost or Taggart.
  10. I’m more worried about the Beavis game before this one. It’s a classic trap game.
  11. We can actually say that Ohio State’s flaw is they can’t win at Autzen. Although, the sample size is extremely small.
  12. I like Dan Lanning’s free agency strategy. Pay those who have proven themselves at the collegiate level.
  13. Vandy's non-conference schedule speaks for itself (Utah State, Ga Southern, Charleston Southern and Va Tech), but I'm willing to bet that they drop at least two of the four.
  14. Nobody knows until the season starts. The greatest QB ever to play at Tennessee couldn’t win a national championship in 1997, but his backup did the following season.
  15. Winning is hard enough. Winning a tournament of this magnitude is a major accomplishment. You have to have talent, but you also have to be on a hot streak. College baseball is a strange animal. I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen a team win by double digits in the first game of a 3-game series only to go stone cold in the final 2 and get eliminated. It happened to Beavis in 2017. I hate to say it but I’m hoping Beavis knocks off FSU. Those boys are a little too cocky for my liking.
  16. They have three cream puffs to start the season and they only travel to the West Coast one time to play UCLA. However, they have Iowa and Ohio State back to back on the road. If they can get through their schedule with one loss they will be a serious contender.
  17. It will be a 7:30 EST game on NBC. Looks like a late night for those of us in attendance.
  18. Ownership of a major sport franchise is highly coveted. There will be people lining up to buy the Blazers and they will pay more than what they're worth. Paul Allen paid $70M and they're worth $3.6B now. I just hope the new owners don't try to move them after 2030.
  19. This is good news. I believe his attention would’ve been divided which would take some of his focus away from Oregon athletics. Phil Knight says he's not interested in buying Trail Blazers - ESPN WWW.ESPN.COM Nike co-founder Phil Knight said Wednesday that he is not interested in buying the Trail Blazers.
  20. It seems that Fox is also primed to make Oregon/PSU a Big Noon game. I feel bad for the visiting West Coast folks who will be forced to tailgate with their body clock at 6:00-7:00 AM.
  21. He seems wishy-washy. He goes with the school that shows him the most love, but he’s still going to take visits. He has “flip” written all over him.
  22. That’s how you win championships. Just ask Saban, Meyer, Carroll, etc.
  23. Could this be the reason? He’s getting paid well and he doesn’t have to give up anything if his relationship with Jordan Hudson doesn’t work out.
