Well the Tech DL destroyed my narrative...but their WRs played exactly how I thought they would.

The playoff format helped OBD today. But the defense stepped up.

Another scenario when one unit bailed out the other.

On to the next one.

Personal thoughts:

  • DL and Tosh really didnโ€™t like how the JMU game ended and laid into the defense for it.

  • Will Stein took his turn in being distracted by his new job. Focus on your current one first!

I LOVE Grey Pants!

I am stunned at how the defense played....never saw that coming. But I am disappointed that we did not throw the ball to the wide receivers more...but I gotta count my blessings.

Our offense has got to figure some things out before we play our next game. 1 offensive TD on a short 5 yard field, is not going to cut it next time.

But holy crap... our defense has just been insane today. Nobody in their right mind predicted that our defense would hold the high octane TT offense to 0 points.

Both defenses played pretty well, OBD's offense was too much for TT. Loved the fake punt call.

Too bad the Ducks could seem to find the end zone. Credit to the TT D.

This is my favorite win EVER!!!!!

TT fans in chat rooms were all hanging their hat on the JMU game score. All puuffed up about how good their offense is compared to the High School we let score at willโ€ฆ.lol

I love that we blew up that narrative.

Just the 3rd Oregon defensive shutout in the last 13 years.

So unbelievably impressive.

And what makes this all the more amazing to me is that it comes on the heels of giving up 500+ yards to JMU.

Tosh, By Gosh!

Brother Mike West, if you're right for the wrong reason, you're still right! ๐Ÿ˜And, OBD did control the clock, and then some.

50 years ago to the day I was at The Orange Bowl 1976. A mere child was I. Rooted for OU to beat Michigan 14-6 to win The National Title. Wasn't there today. But will be there January 19th for a UO National Title.

Lanning would have had is team take a knee as usual, except for the useless BS timeouts called by TT. No apologies for an extra TD

At times, not sure what our offensive brain trust was thinking. Against a defense of the caliber of Texas Tech, a go for it, taking the bit between your teeth mentality is just not smart football. In big time games; breath, and take what the situation offers.

Two takeaways for me, to win the next one more easily:

  1. Take the points

  2. Pass the ball vertically

I am so impressed with this team, especially the defense. The offense will do better, the next team's defense won't be so stifling. They were very good. Texas Techs offense was sub par

although that was probably due to the ducks. What a wonderful game.

Who knows? It may have been a much different game had Lanning taken that approach. Hard to argue with the edge the defense played with throughout the entire game. That came from somewhere. Perhaps it was a direct consequence of Lanning's approach.

In DL we trust.

Defense was lights out, Dante needs to keep his eyes downfield as he missed some pretty open reads for long yardage.

Techโ€™s defense reminded me of Indianaโ€™s defense . Fortunately, their offense reminded me of Oklahoma Stateโ€™s offense.

I'm a little surprised TT out rushed the Ducks by 14 yds. 50 of those yds. on one play tho.

Both teams did a good job of shutting down running plays. Dante Moore was the difference maker in this game, getting OBD in position to put points on the board. TT's offense had nothing.

No issue with the defenseโ€™s attack mentality. Itโ€™s knowing when and when not to adjust that approach on offense that troubles me.

Previous Duck Defensive Shutouts...

Pur-done, 35-0, with DG at the helm

Portland State, 69-0, in 2010

Arizona, 49-0, in 1992...

About time!

It's good to not to be Texas Tech fans right now. What a miserable offensive performance from their perspective.

They lived on offense by short fields, deep passes down the sidelines and runs to the edges all season. We didn't give them any of those, and the 25 day break put them to sleep.

The game was pretty much over after the strip takeaway. We increased our lead to 13 while injuring Morton's bicep on his throwing arm on the strip.

TECH GOT WRECKED!

If Oregon has to play Indiana, Dante needs to fix his happy feet or the result will be the same as the October game.

As to the 4th down decisions, Iโ€™d want to see the analytics, but each one felt like the right call to me. They just didnโ€™t convert which isnโ€™t necessarily an indication of whether the call was โ€œcorrectโ€

No.

Couple thoughts-

Tech's quarterback looked like Moore in the Indiana game (due to our defense).

That is probably the best Defense we will see all year, they were tough. Hard to throw vertically when there is that much pressure.

We were sloppy on offense; fumbled hand offs, bad snaps, illegal procedure, etc.

I cannot count the holding penalty's because they saved Moore from getting smacked.

Can still improve which is a good sign.

Congratulations to the Ducks, especially the defenders, on the win against a worthy opponent.

That said, I would like to see DL adjust to the game in his decision-making.

Specifically, it seemed apparent at some point that Tech was going to have a very hard time scoring unless assisted by Oregon. The pick thrown by Dante nearly let them back into the game. Given that Tech statistically struggled to drive the length of the field through the season and was certainly struggling against the Ducks, it would have been better to punt the football.

TTโ€™s scoring defense came in averaging just under 12 points per game.

Ducks doubled that.

Their scoring offense came in averaging over 44 points per game.

Ducks blanked that.

I could not ask for anything better.

If everyone knew before the game that Dante would throw for 234 yds, get sacked twice, throw a pick, get no TDs and Oregon would rush for well under 100 yds, would folks have predicted that win?

Give TT credit for having a defense that was as advertised. One can quibble about overly aggressive 4th down attempts, specific play calls and not taking the dang points!!! All valid observations that will get examined at the doctor visit.

But the defensive game plan and execution was otherworldly and that glass is a lot more than half full going into the semis.

Two down ....Two to go!!!!!! Go get it Ducks!!!!!!!

Which will be the bigger storylineโ€ฆ

1st round byes or B12 weakness?

No.

Texas Tech's Defense is legit.

Texas Tech's offense is a fraud and benefited from a weaker schedule and their defense being elite.

DL gave the byline for Ducks vs Them in the immediate post game interview:

"Pound of flesh"

The next OBD meal will be a pound of peach flesh at the end of next week

Dan Lanning has brought a trophy back home to Eugene in every year he has coached at Oregon. Chip wouldโ€™ve done the same if the Pac-12 gave out trophies prior to 2011.
