  1. I do not live through the DUCKS. I live through those that aspire to be DUCKS. Never shy away from great competition nor tremble facing a stronger foe. Hold your head high, face the challenges with your best efforts, satisfied you gave it your ALL. To me that is OREGON and being a DUCK.
  2. Who could forget this game, the Year of the First Oregon Heisman Winner and last NCP appearance in 2015. Rose Bowl Champs in 1917, 2012, 2015 and 2020. More than just a game, it's history has shown it is "The Granddaddy of Them ALL". Loved the beating Oregon gave FSU, Jimbo Fisher and Jameis Winston. One of the BEST Oregon games where the Offense and Defense gave over 100%. So many players making plays, not relying on one person to carry the team. So humiliated FSU, many of the players left the field rather than face Oregon players after the game. One of The BEST Oregon Uniforms worn in any game in my opinion.
  3. I believe there is some upside to Thornton, just like there was for Devon Williams a once Highly Touted Recruit. He became one of the main Targets for Anthony Brown, last year. Went undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft. Thornton, has to find his fit, showcase his talents and make a case for the NFL. Good Luck to the Young man. Sometimes your fresh start blossoms other times you are one of many with time running out.
  4. My wife of 25+ years considers herself a Beaver, she was happy to be informed that they had their 9th victory since we first met 28 years ago. She was so happy, I could not steal her thunder. Little Victories Matter. Revenge is so SWEET though. Mic, enjoy your retirement, knowing the Beavers and Dawgs being competitive, helps us moving forward as a Conference, if it will still exist. . . The Dawgs, we get to reach into their house and exact some payback, me hopes. Love College Football. Go Ducks!
  5. Dan Lanning has been very organized in his hiring of staff. To know this may have been going on since Herm Edwards was released by ASU on September 18, 2022. I am shocked. Yet I can not imagine Dan Lanning getting in the way of his OC, who says Dan, there is this Opening I seriously want a chance at, 3 weeks into the season. . . . Dan Lanning understands what a Life Changing experience it is. Kenny Dillingham has a chance to go back to his and his wife's family and friends, truly going home. In this business of College Football, Schools ask a lot of their staff, time, effort and sacrifice, time away from family, for the team. Should Oregon take care of the coaches, DL will take care of the job at Oregon. Oregon finished the regular season 9-3. There was this chance, had the ball bounced the right way to be 11-1. In my mind, That would have been the GREATEST BONUS ever for the DUCKS! But in reality, this season has been such an impressive First Year for Dan Lanning. You just have to be excited for what is coming in year Two and the future of Oregon Ducks Football. Go DUCKS!
  6. Man I am getting OLD, went back through and saw some conversations I missed. Some were Great while others made me think, ponder, Mullensitover. One that caught my eye the second time had to do with Phil being the Boss of Mullens. No one will deny, that Phil and Penny Knight have made the conditions at Oregon to be more attractive to talented athletes, coaches and staff with their extremely generous contributions over the years. The old story I heard goes like this, correct me if I am wrong. Phil Knight approached Coach Bellotti after a loss and asked him how could, as an alumni, help to get involved. To legally support the schools football program. Bellotti, mentioned upgrading facilities, an indoor practice facility protected from the Oregon weather. Phil has been known to catch an ear of an AD, HC's and School Presidents and not just at Oregon. Phil built his business from the trunk of his car. Carrying track shoes and a waffle iron, as the story goes. His father was a Lawyer turned News Paper Publisher of the long defunct Oregon Journal. His father refused to give him a summer job believing that his son should find work on his own. (per Wikipedia) So a self made man. I believe a man like that, expects the winners to figure it out, while keeping their ears open.
  7. Ball Bounces. So many things happening but did you See the Great Game, The Beavers pulled "a Ducking of the Cougars", WOW! Turn about is fair play. You can go on about how Oregon lost it, DL, KD blew it but think about it. . . WSU up and OREGON turns 29 points in less than 4 minutes. Lightning in the bottle moments. Love it. GO DUCKS!
  8. NO Coach will come to a school that demands, he takes outside advice, unless you give him a Guaranteed Contract. Why should he take a job where he has no say, control and his career is controlled by another. Mullens hired him to do a job. Mullens needs to allow him to operate his team, ensuring that he is complying with Schools, NCAA and other rules and regulations maybe even a code of conduct. If there was a potential problem with a hire, this may be where Mullens steps in to ensure that DL is aware of concerns. One red flag I saw, had to do with Tosh Lupoi as his past history, reared its ugly head in some of Oregon offensive players appearing to fake injuries. Two instances I can remember, the Hutson injury in the last seconds of the Washington game. Another injury involving Franklin, the game escapes me but when I saw it, I thought of Lupoi and the Hutson instance just stood out even more. I say this as character, honor and integrity should be important in work, sports and life. Otherwise, why whine about coaching issues, performance or PAC 12 referees. When teams started to fake injuries to slow Oregon down when Chip and Helfrich had the BLUR going warp speed, all Oregon fans hated that. But as you can see TL has a chance to be a part of Oregon's success. DL will help mentor TL, we learn from each other. And hopefully TL is not like Lane Kiffin, who knows it ALL, someone who can not get out his own way, Mario Cristobal. Rant over.
  9. I usually enjoy your threads, as upset as I was at what I saw was happening, thank the QB upstairs my TV room is in the basement. But when it came down to it, this is WHY I LOVE COLLEGE FOOTBALL! Oregon was the Beavers at one time, Playing at Michigan and CLEANING their clock in their house, Dennis Dixon had such a great game. I am so proud of how our team played TWO Int, ONE forced fumble recovery. You could not ask more or your squad. The ball bounces your way sometimes and others it slips your grasp. Dan Lanning will learn, he will figure it out, bring in the right people, he lost a great one to ASU but his tree will grow, he planted it right here at OREGON. Keep giving us your best stuff DNC you make us all better too.
  10. The fact that the kid changes his mind because there becomes some shake up in the school he originally choose should not surprise anyone. You hope they see the school, the HC or coaches and the program and fan support is outstanding. Oregon speaks for itself and its reach is global. Dan Lanning will find a competent teacher of young men to lead the offense. The issues on defense will be addressed. Go Ducks!
  11. While the losses to two of Oregon's Top Rivals may seem devastating to some. I would counter that fans should be overjoyed. Oregon hired a young First time Head Coach that assembled a completely New Staff, Scheme whose players adapted to, so well. Dan Lanning and team out performed two previous Veteran Head Coaches and their veteran staff. Willy Taggart first regular season as HC at Oregon 2017, 7-5, Slick W split for FSU before the loss at the Redbox Bowl. Mario Cristobal first regular season as HC at Oregon 2018, 8-4, Hurricane Mario would coach four years at Oregon finishing with a 36-12 record. I too am saddened that they lost the lightning in the bottle but even with Dillingham departing, I am excited to see what this young open minded Coach pulls out of his hat! Has he made mistakes, Yes and he has owned them. Does he gamble when he should play conservative, Yes, but it is to show his faith in his coaches and players. Go Ducks.
  12. If our Coordinators are not garnering attention, we have some staff to replace, IMHO. That is a sign of good HC that is doing the right hiring. Also allows growth within the program, to show their talents. Not all will be successful but an chance is all anyone should expect. Mario, enjoy Miami as Miami enjoys you. No take backs Canes!
  13. Now this I would politely disagree with as the confidence in Ty's abilities had not been developed enough to show up on the field on game days. But honestly, this is what Mario got from him too, a bit out of sync, lacking confidence maybe? He just did not seem engaged when he took the field. Sometimes it is about fits. But DL is far from a sinking ship, IMHO. Could the interview process for KD affected his abilities with Oregon, may have. DL gave his all to Georgia when he accepted the HC job at Oregon. I would have expected no less from KD but it would seem the Need at ASU was important and DL understood it. Does not mean he liked it, I am sure it put him in a pickle but he did not stand in KD's way. You have to respect that as a coach looking to better life for yourself and family. And really, that is the way it has been all over CFB. Room for growth with Coach Lanning but I bet he gets Oregon sailing again, with better hands, coaching and playing. Judge him against the last two HC of Oregon along with Former FSU now Texas A&M coach. FAU fired Willy Taggart after three season, after FSU let him go after nearly two season. Miami fans have buyer remorse after an underwhelming first season of Mario. And T a&m is questioning the abilities of Jimbo Fisher. We could be a lot worse thank the Might Men of Oregon though. Go Ducks!
  14. This right here. Being close to family might give him the home support he needs to blossom into the QB people believe he is. Remember Bo and KD at Auburn. Change of scenery for Ty would not hurt him, to get a fresh start and close to home. Best of Luck to the Young man should he decide a change is necessary.
  15. With KD leaving, can we expect a loss of the much touted offensive recruits fire power, QB, WR, TE? I would think that the OL coach keeps his peeps but what ever happens, there is always the Portal. The portal gives you players with experience with a college team, that has a strength building year in them ready for tutelage and reps. My hope is that DL, has an OC that will keep those players onboard. We shall see.
  16. I thought Chip had our number finally. It is amazing to me, when we play Chip, he does not look like the guy Charles started analyzing for us on Offensive play calls and building this platform as a informational mecca on the blur. Even his play calling but mostly how he handles himself. He looks like a man taken down the ladder, a lot of rungs and is the shell of whom he was at Oregon. Dan Lanning, on the other hand, reminds me of Mike Bellotti but more humble. His youth, shines through but he has assembled a class plan to help him navigate the learning process of a New Head Coach. Now is this from him or outside help. I would almost guess, that if the peeps that hired him, they gave him some helpful input. But picking up the Chief of Staff, that is a forward thinking HC. Staff that does the leg work with out violating NCAA rules. You have to like that. Recruiting takes SO MUCH TIME, that coaches do not have a life. Eliminate some of that leg work, then the pay checks seem manageable. Mario seemed to burn out his staff of coaches. But to me, that is how Mario, keeps his job, recruiting. He has not shown to be a great developer of talent, the talent usually has the personalities to develop themselves. I just feel comfortable with this coach. He will find the pieces and people to make his dream come true. His Chief of Staff, has said he has seen the "ands" in him. We will too. I too believe when Ty was not allowed to lead the team, he understood Ty was not the guy. But Jay too, not even getting a sniff of the field? That is two, back ups that have been taking up space on the bench with scholarships. The limit of 25 recruits a year? The clarity of the number 85 as the new normal. I do not quite understand all the details but it seems as if your roster is in constant transition with the portal and NIL. I am guessing Charles may have an article, that explains it more easily to some of us less knowledgeable persons as myself. Charles, to you sir, as always, not an easy job but one can tell the love and devotion, you put in to this endeavor. Thanks for allowing me to enjoy the Ducks from your vantage point and home. I felt welcome and entertained again. Thank you sir.
  17. Heart breaking loss. The defense, had two INT's and a forced fumble recovery. The offense went up 21 points. DL will learn how to maintain momentum. He will learn how to work the clock. He will learn about having a capable back up QB to lead and continue the offense. Now it maybe he will learn what it is like to have great coaches rebuild and restock the cupboards of a successful program. Still proud of this first year Head Coach, as he has assembled a staff to compete at a high level. To develop a team of players that have grown a lot together. Great foundation, great team, build the legacy. Go Ducks.
  18. Curious how this will affect our recruiting class. Due to the offensive scheme. Wow. Thought he would stay at least one more year.
  19. Building reliable depth for QB, Defense, OL, will be so important to this team. I am happy where the team is heading, hoping they get the schemes better planned. Bend but don't Stop has got to change. Wild regular season and happy that we have a Young Coach whom I hope will grow and learn from ALL of this Mayhem in the Pac-12 and will grow to be a great coach. GO DUCKS.
  20. How about the "C.E. Ville War" like in the Corvallis Eugene Ville War, a rally in the valley. Say it enough, sounds like a French person saying civil or at least in my mind, it does. And just like everything else after awhile it will have a RE-iteration of C.E.vil or Civil, what comes around goes around? I thought about "The Taxidermy Tourney" because both Beavers and Ducks where/are hunted but I figured that would just bring PETA in, defeating the purpose of not offending someone because of football. And the thought of either school using an old trapper as a mascot in my mind did not seem appealing, unless one was having flashbacks of Robert Redford in Jeremiah Johnson. That seemed too savage. I mean this is FOOTBALL we are talking about here.
  21. I have so much respect for Coach Whittingham and his teams. Reminds me of former coaches and players from Oregon's past. Talent Coached up, developed to compete at a higher level against more talented schools. The Utes and Oregon have fielded lesser known athletes that have performed in a competitive manner on the field, usually in front of large hostile crowds. Never electing to turn down a great team, or chance to measure themselves against elite competition. This is why college football is so enjoyable to watch. Go Ducks, Go Utes, finish the season strong.
  22. This year, he learned with the right pieces, he could have a great chance to be successful in the NFL. Maybe Not as a Top 5 Draft pick but surely a top 20 Pick. A top twenty pick, I would guess has enough team talent, like on the O line and depth at WR's, TE's and RB. Good Luck to him, he sure made Oregon exciting under a first time HC and first year staff. Go Ducks.
  23. Have had a lot on my mind. I actually am not phased by the loss as it was a GOOD loss if you are going to have one. The Loss against Georgia, is a Good Loss too. As it was the FIRST game of the season, FIRST game as a coaching staff against a GREAT National Championship Team, Coach to Recruits. The fact that we have a Defensive Minded coach, I believe explains why, he settles in on the score. He is not looking to offensively man handle other teams in order to get some real game reps for back ups on the Offense. Time on that field, should be used for putting your players in learnable moments. Offensive players need that for timing, adjusting but that has not been happening. It is for burning up clock and dumping fuel or opportunities for the opposing offense. Defenses react to what happens on the field. Rules in the NCAA are very strict about time with athletes. It is why Chip kept up repetition on the field and used class room time for correction. Seems to me, that is what I recall in all my years, listening to Charles and the great writers he brought in. That you have only so much time, Hands On Physically with the players then Class room time. So that makes time on the field, in a game valuable, why waste it? Coach Lanning, you seem to have your head going in the RIGHT direction. WHY would you let these valuable "time" opportunities slip by. . . I hear you about time dedicated to recruiting. . . But that is why you have Malchow/Chief of Staff. . . That is WHY, those that came before you have showed you the way. . . Quit reinventing the wheel and get right with the limited TIME you have at your disposal and train your back ups, let them get hungry and eat. . . Keep the old ones, the less talented HUNGRY, they fight to survive. . . The weak, head to Miami. I know, I know, we do not know what it is really like, us Arm Chair QB's. Sitting in front of the TV watching hours of real games. Heck, we could never really tell what was happening, if the Hot Dog Guy has Ketchup or Mustard but seriously. We have had Nearly 15 years(?) of Charles and FishDuck teaching ALL of us the details of the IZR reading the DE on a QB sweep pitch to the RB if the Safety Crashes us. Teachable Moments Coach! But for reals, get our boys some real game reps, leave the children at home.
  24. The old say, of how the ball bounces. The fumble, the Nix injury and TD stop. Missed Defensive plays. It happens, as Chip found out in his time here. The question becomes, can we cut down those bounces against us and make them in our favor. More consistent defense, Great would be preferable but consistent would be nice. A competent back up QB, like Brian Bennett or Nate Costa and Thomas for Masoli.
  25. BFT, really, is this "the" John Canzano? Never thought anything intelligent would come out of this guys mouth, are we being played? But after reviewing the article, his take is very similar to my take when I watched DL interview. Nice Job Canzano. That just feels weird saying. Excuse me, while I wash my mouth out with soap.
