Transfer Portal Will Be a Disaster For Student-Athletes
DanLduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Chip Kelly is a coach who would use the portal to his benefit. Seems he doesn't like recruiting kids who haven't proven anything at D1 level. Question: how do transfer portal students count towards graduation requirements? -
Funny, my wife said the same thing. She and I met at Oregon 42 years ago. She has sweetly watched with me all these years. Her knowledge of the game is simplistic, but enjoys it with me for the fun of being together. One time this year after seeing yet another 3 yd pass on 3rd and long, she said, " why doesn't he throw it further downfield?" I suggested she apply to be the OC, cuz that was a brilliant idea!! I too hope for a more fun to watch offense.

College Football: How Do You Make a Champion?
DanLduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Fans?!? Too many negative Nellie's in my book. -
How long do you think he would stay? Guy has burned a lot of bridges.
-
How long would he stay?!!? Guy burns more bridges than Grant's March through Georgia!!

Why would you want to keep this from happening? Why keep someone who doesn't want to be here? College football is big business. Everyone has been saying that on this site since NIL. Why wouldn't coaches move on for better perceived opportunities? You can't blame them. We all knew MC wasn't here forever. Some are happy, some are not. One thing for sure, top 10 recruiting classes are a thing of the past.

Oddsmakers: "Oregon is Destined for an Underwhelming Hire"
DanLduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The past 3 recruiting classes have been the best Oregon EVER had. We were poised for a fourth. There is zero chance others will recruit like Cristobal. Zero. That means that right now is the best we is ever gonna be. Whom ever becomes head coach, will have to be someone who can coach up 3*. Just realize that as a fact. -
Cristobal Explains His Decision to Canzano...
DanLduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I think it was a classy move by MC. He didn't have to call in to bft. I think the all in effort he gave Oregon the past 5 years is sign enough he cared about the school, community and the players. Oregon will always be a stepping stone now. After firing Helfrich, it's clear we have no patience. After reading all the "criticism" of MC here this year, it seems we on FD lack patience also. Well we got what many wished for. It may cost us 2-3 more years of waiting, but the current roster is young and full of potential. I hope we can find someone who can make the most of it. -
Leaving before signing period is better than leaving after. How can we blame MC for wanting to go "home"? I bet you the only reason he hasn't already decided to leave is because of his character and a desire to do the right and best thing for him and his family. Besides, after reading this site all season, I'm surprised anyone is disappointed if he goes!

I can't believe this. 10 days before early signing... Who will there be to coach in Alamo bowl... College football has become nothing more than big business. Ow. So, according to Canzano, we call Chip Kelly back?!?
-
Please, don't even suggest that had any bearing on his going "home" for 9 mill/per.

It's on the Fox News app, he is headed to Miami along with most assistants.

Best Pac-12 Assistant Coaches at Recruiting
DanLduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
With UCLA having 2 in the top 10, why are their recruiting classes so poor? -
Any chance this means USC is planning to leave the Pac12 for SEC? Why would Riley leave OU now? He had to be in agreement or why would the school leave the Big12.

Hilarious!! Love it!!

I'll respond to your comments, but don't take it personal. Have you ever played organized team sports? Have you ever coached college age sports? How do you know what the coach is saying to a player? Do you know the background to his comments? Do you know what had already been said in practice? We watch and assume. There is a huge difference between being paid for performance and being a student athlete. I think as fans we gloss over those differences to fast and easy. I also think because D1 players are so talented we make assumptions about their maturity. They are still kids. In some states they can't even buy tobacco or alcohol (not that I want them to), but those are things for "mature people". I know I was very inconsistent at that age. I played hoops in college, not D1, but I know how hard it can be to do everything required as a student athlete. No one is saying we fans can't have disappointed expectations, but calling kids names, or calling for benching, or booing, or wanting coaches fired is over the top in my book. My coach used to say a game or a season was a microcosm of life. You have some success, some failure. You make mistakes, you perform well. The important thing was how you responded to each. College athletics is a learning class. Like any other subject, the kids are learning valuable life skills. Learning to deal with adversity is perhaps the most important. It is obviously something many fans have not learned yet.

Yes, Happy Thanksgiving to all. I too am grateful for this site and all the contributers. I'm always learning something new. Enjoy your family and friends.

Thanks for the share... ...my thoughts exactly! Now, just beat those Beavs!!!

That actually is a pretty funny post, and it was venting. Thanks Fishduck for making a good point. I so agree with you.

Thank you gpa duck. Well said. After watching that debacle in Utah, it's understandable we would have some negative reactions by some of us. But with the rising of the sun, a new day brings a bit more of a calmer resolve. We should all hope that MC is still our guy come January. Florida, Miami, LSU is a lot of interest to ignore. There are many reasons a young family would want dad to move, being close to relatives would be a big one. The real problem is expectations. Like everything, we want it all and we want it now. Our team is young. We had lots of injuries. It is also the first full year for both coordinators. To me, that's a lot of newness. My real concern is the next game. How will this team respond, that will say tons about our coaching staff.

I think that the Rose Bowl has an out if the next is a 4 or 5 loss team. Isn't that how TCU played in the Rose Bowl?
