  1. Yes. Absolutely. I have hated it when other teams did it to us, but I do like it when we do it. Lanning is a smart guy.
  2. Totally agree! I've always said if Boise wanted to be taken seriously, they should play on a grown-up field!!
  3. Is the cover 2, bend- don't break defense the best bet to slow down the high octane spread offenses of today? I know we've given up too many passing yards (we're 125 out of 131 fbs schools) but besides a few amazing catches, we haven't given up the explosion play much. I think our db's need to react/anticipate a little faster and get better leverage on tackles, and we'd improve a bunch. Thanks for ther terrific recent analysis articles. Reminds me of the early days of Fishduck and how quickly my football knowledge grew. This is fun to watch and learn all the new stuff from our great coaching staff. Charles, we need an article on what the O-line is doing differently from the former regime. He was always claiming how tough they were, but all our stats are vastly improved vs any of the previous 4 years. Go Ducks!!
  4. Thanks Darren. Most fun read I've had in awhile. I think we've all been there, well, I know I have! Your descriptive words will stay with me all season!
  5. I saw the same thing.
  6. Wow! Just wow!! I'm kinda exhausted!
  7. The only concern with OSU winning is whether we need USC to be ranked high enough to give the Pac12 relevance in eyes of voters. Realistically, we need UW and Utah and USC to continue winning. And I almost choke writing that. Let the Beavs lose in a close game, but only so the Pac seems relevant.
  8. Night games will never go away. Never. As we are on the "left" coast, ours is the only conference that can provide for the late time slot. And as we know, the media deals ($$) control start times. Part of the hope for ESPN money is that they need us to fill that exact time slot. So here is a thought, Use the late games as a chance to resell your tickets to fans who don't normally get to go. Fresh voices to scream in the night air, and we all stay home and feel proud of ourselves for helping Oregon develop more fan accessibility. And we avoid those crazy long waits in the travel home. Btw, if you haven't read Canzano's take on a combined media deal of steaming and mainline tv, you should. He makes good points. I too like an occasional night game, but boy, I hate that commute home!
  9. ⁰This poll makes more sense then the coaches poll. UW, WSU, OSU and Oregon are 11-1. Gonna be an interesting season in Pac12/10.
  10. Seems to me Dollars is the back in whenever it is an important passing down. I also think he is a patient runner.
  11. Wow! That was fast. He gone.
  12. I don't think Bo Nix played that bad of a game. The 2nd pic was not a good throw, but we moved the ball pretty good at spots. We had 313 yds and over 140 rushing. It was the right decision not to play backups. Being thrashed on the road against that team is too much a baptism by fire IMHO. I don't understand the RB situation. Dollars and Cardwell had best results and got fewest touches. What of Seven? It seems like he got benched after trying to run back that opening kickoff and only gaining 15 yds. We took touch backs there after. No one should have expected Bo to be a Heisman candidate. Steson Bennett on the other hand, is one. And he played like it. His throws, his ball fakes, his timing were all spot on. He put on a clinic of outstanding qb play. I think our issue with BN, is that SB played so well, we have qb envy. Especially with Marcus in the house, our memories didn't match play on the field. I for one will flush that loss and look forward to EWU. And, I'm so glad we aren't playing on that horrid red field!
  13. Thanks Drex, finally some sanity from the bleacher section. The sky is not falling. We've lost won game to a really, really good, well coached, uber talented, experienced team. And we lost really badly. So, moving forward, we move forward. 67 of UGA's 85 schollies are blue-chip studs. All playing in schemes they know quite well. We, on the other hand, have a ways to go. It should be fun and educational to watch the growth of our team through this season. Now, with tempered, realistic expectations, we can more enjoy all these games, win or lose.
  14. "It's more player led. We can do what we want within the coaches scheme." What exactly does that mean? Anyone? I've heard "player led" before, but I thought that was for practice and self discipline. What does IC mean?
  15. Yes, very real. I keep telling myself we don't have to win, just keep it within 17.5 points!!
  16. I agree in principle with you on this. I wish we were better than throwing shade on someone who lifted our program and left it better than he found it. But, the season hasn't started yet, and many peops do like to "poke" those who aren't us, and Mario is longer one of us. MC was the one who notified Spencer's brother. From Miami. Apparently he still is valued by current players and families. I for one was not entertained by this article. So what. This great site is for way more than just me. I don't have to like everything. I do like our new coach. But that can change. Results are everything now.
  17. I'm surprised at the negativity when it was anonymous. Seems like we should be able to fly under the radar for at least a few games cuz they don't seem to expect Oregon to do much.
  18. Mario recruited SW, and was a good help for him when he was here. Im sorry he couldn't make it. I hope many of you saw the service on YouTube. It was very moving. RIP Spider.
  19. There is a massive difference in the physical toll on athletes from bball to football. Because of the importance of size and speed, no "Cinderella" will ever last the pounding of a football tournament. There is also the chance with only 5 players that one star could be enough to win against better teams. This can not happen in football. You need more than one star. It is this Cinderella belief that gives all 64 teams hope. Thus the excited fan bases. The traditions surrounding football are much more regional and most fans realize that only a few teams really have a chance. With NIL making for paid teenagers, and the portal making for fluid rosters, and new leagues ending traditional rivalries, I believe you will see a rapid decline in college football fans. Attendance has been declining for years and will continue with fewer reasons to follow closely. Expectations will be higher because they are now paid. After 2 losses, any team would be disqualified from a Natty so why try any longer. No, I see this as one huge mistake. I personally am out.
  20. We live in a time where anything "traditional " is seen as old and needlessly unnecessary. "Change with the times, or get left behind " is the new mantra. "Each man for himself". We've lost sight of what made us great, what made us strong. College football is popular because we share a bond, a loyalty to fellow students. We went to that school, or a friend or family member did. It's in our state. We follow a certain school because we share a loyalty that is greater than ourselves. This chase for $$ under the guise of "settling whose #1 on the field" is the final straw to bring about the demise of college athletics. The teams that make the super leagues may do ok, but it will be at the expense of non-revenue sports and all other football programs. I will not have the same loyalty to follow professional college age players in a league that disdains tradition and value for "less successful" teams like Cal or OSU, who have added much to the success and value of the Pac over the years, but not as much recently. This move by USC, and trying to be copied by us and others, is as selfish and short sighted as anything historical ever. We liked college because it wasn't professional, wasn't tainted. Kids played for the brotherhood of team togetherness, not for a bigger NIL deal. Sure, some schools maybe not, but the vast majority of the thousands of kids playing college ball knew they weren't getting to the next stage, and still they played hard. I won't be a part of that type of league. I guess my days of being a fanatical Duck fan are nearing an end. This article was spot on for me.
  21. The issue for religious schools is whether their school rules allow for the acceptance of all gender and sex issues currently facing the country. And the state of CA is the main issue. They ban travel to many states for all public employees, that includes coaches.
  22. We need to do all we can to save the Pac. What that means...I'm not sure. The Pac is our identity. We all have family and friends who have gone to all the other schools. Yes, it would be nice to play some other schools occasionally, but we have no connection to those schools. It's probably too late to get any big 12 schools now, but we need to try.
  23. Considering how difficult the B1G already is, I don't see scheduling a tough Oregon team maybe once in 10 years. Maybe OSU, Colorado, AZ, Cal, but not a tough school. And besides that, they would not want to help the Ducks recruit LA area.
  24. How do you figure, unless we too join the B1G? Not playing in a major recruiting zone like southern CA cannot be a good thing?
