I wonder how many of us would have jumped at the opportunity to more than triple our income, with who knows how much of it guaranteed? IMHO I think it is more like “strike while the iron is hot!”

I really feel we are becoming more well known for losing a game or two each year to a team we should have beaten. it feels like every year we drop one or two to a team that is inferior (either roster or W/L record) that we had no business losing to. Great Teams win the games they are supposed to. Oregon is not a Great Team yet.

It appeared to me that JS and the Beavers just wanted it more. Their offense out played our offense in the end. The Ducks may have won the middle 8, but the Beavers took it to us in the last 12. I am bummed, but not blaming it on the coaches, the defense, special teams, or offense. As much as it was a team loss, it was a team win for the Beavs. For me, losing to the dawgs and the beavers by 3 points each was sickening, and getting blown out by the DAWGS was hard to take, but I am not ready to call for new coaches I think DL got schooled this year, by KS, KdB, and JS. But, at the end of the season, I can live with 9-3 and a Bowl game in his first year.

Thank you Alex, for sharing! I don’t know about you good folk, but I am sick to death of the pc, woke, inoffensive, and hyper-sensitive BS that is trying to take over our language and our lives. I still call this game the Civil War, and everybody knows what I am talking about and NOBODY takes offense. I am fine with adding a hyphen and calling it the Civil-War, but that is it. It is what it is, and what it is is a civil war between the preeminent football teams in the state of Oregon. It has (and never has had) NOTHING to do with slavery, the war between the states, the union, or the confederacy. The over-educated individuals who started this hoo-haw should be ashamed of themselves.

I too was devastated with the botched flip/scoop and score. I felt it was the wrong play, at the wrong time. Follow that up with some 3 and outs or 4 and outs, while letting Utah run roughshod, made for a pretty lousy third quarter for OBD (and this fan). However, I read the comments yesterday from the outgoing seniors, and the thing that struck me was how many of them said things like “football is fun again” or “this year was the most fun they have had playing football.” I remember (50 years ago) trick plays being a blast to run, even when they bombed, but especially when they succeeded! Maybe, just maybe, trick plays bring something to a team’s psyche, and they do have a place… Either way, I don’t think I have the football chops to second guess either DL or KD. IMHO they have earned the right to call whatever play or plays they see fit. Go Ducks, win the next three!

The #1 ranked passing offense played the #127 ranked passing defense. I was stunned (and dismayed) by the plethora of wide-open receivers Penix had to choose from. All Game Long… It is a glaring deficiency that must be alleviated if OBD want to play for the PAC 12 title.

Spot on. We applaud brilliancy when it works, but cry lunacy when it fails. Any loss hurts, but a loss to the purple curs is just worse. There were a lot of little things that took down OBD last night, and they were mostly self inflicted. It happens, sometimes the better team comes up short on the scoreboard. We still control our own Destiny. Win out, and OBD are Rose Bowl Champions, which is far better than the #4 seed that becomes cannon fodder for Georgia.

Charles, great article! Dishing on the dastardly dawgs is almost as much fun a learning about OBD! The men of mutt-ville are definitely “not champion material!”

Like the Yell-O colors, but don’t care for the short pants. They should at least cover the knees. Covering the knees with padding will prevent injuries without sacrificing much speed.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and trust that DL and his coaching staff probably have a better read in who is #2 and who is #3 than I (or we) will ever have. But then, I trusted Mari(no)o and his staff too, so what do I know?

Great article Charles, thank you! I look forward to the off-season breakdowns by you and Coach Boles. They will definitely lighten up the long dark season of no football! My biggest concern is keeping Coach Dilly for the foreseeable future. While he is bringing back the Oregon brand, the man is making himself a hot property.
