By Bailing at 'Halftime' Pat Chun Becomes Jayden de Laura of ADs
DanLduck replied to NJDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
In the end, after a while, coug fans will get used to being in the G-5 league, where they should have been all along. They compare much better to Boise St then UW (sportswise). And by 2030, when Ducks are getting the $$$$ yearly income and 90% blue-chip studs players, WSU will be a much forgotten blip from the past. Wait till there best players transfer out each year. -
Heavy Hangover for Salty Gamecock Fans...
DanLduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thanks Charles. Tour 2 posts on USC(e) were a delight to read while drinking my morning Java, though I almost spit it out a few times laughing. Thanks again -
It's one thing to keep the Pac12 monies from back-up rainy day fund, but monies from the "big dance" when your school isn't even a participant?! I must concur with Mr. Fishduck, Pig-2 is a much better name. You would think there would be grounds for a legal pursuit, but with legal costs it might not be worth the effort. I venture to say that this $$ is more than any TV contract they might get in the future. 16 - 20 M divided by 3 - 6years won't go too far anyway. But the principle of fairplay, not applicable to Pig-2.

What were Oregon State and WSU Supposed to Do?
DanLduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thanks for this.post. We may not like it, but it's clear in the contractual agreement. These monies will help those 2 schools for only so long. The latest announcements from new CFP prove they are relegated to G5 status, at best. And realistically justified. Their only hope for blue-chip players will be NIL. I'm betting even the Civil War game will lose interest and become less then yearly. -
I find it slightly humorous that coaches (and players) lose so much of their luster when they no longer wear yellow and green (or whatever other colors the Ducks are currently modeling). The Chipper took a good offense and made it amazing. He made Dixon into a potential Heisman candidate (before injury) when Dixon was so unsure about football he played baseball the summer prior. Between the CK offense, and the Fishduck website, football is not the same anywhere. One of the reasons CK was so successful at Oregon, he had better players to work with. He may have even better players at tOSU. They need a better run game, maybe now they'll have one. And even though good teams have caught up to the spread, playing at tempo is still tough for everyone. I think a happier Chip will make for a more productive Chip. He doesn't have to score 40 per game in the B1G to win, just against the likes of Oregon. I'm so glad we play them in Autzen. I'll always love CK for what he did here, but I want him to continue to go 0- Fer against us in Autzen. Sco Ducks!

The Climb - 2024 Oregon Football Winter Workouts - Episode 1
DanLduck replied to NJDuck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
wow! -
I find the wave useful only when it helps wake a crowd up and get involved. This is very seldom the need at Autzen. Along with other mentioned displays done, I like it when the cheerleaders lead one side of stadium to yell "go" and the otherside answer "Ducks". However, in defense of the "wave", in my younger days, I was "that guy" who started the wave regularly. Mostly at Portland Winterhawk hockey games. My lovely bride would hide her head in embarrassment. Oh well, those were the good ol' days. Go Ducks!

Chip Kelly Leaving UCLA For OC Job At Ohio State!

Quite true. Dante sure left in a hurry. -
Chip Kelly Leaving UCLA For OC Job At Ohio State!
DanLduck replied to Babyjesus615's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
An interesting move indeed. But it's a good move for Chip. He has had the opportunity to be head coach at several great locations, and at age 60, has decided what might make him enjoy life more. I'm sure the current era of NIL and transfer portal has made his "love" of recruiting even less so. Yes, as OC he still needs to recruit, but only for one side of the game, and without the responsibility for everything. He still attracts great offensive talent, Dante Moore is a fine example. He was strong Oregon all the way until Chip flipped him. He also has had great RB's in his system routinely. I expect he will do well as OC at tOSU. Probably not as successful as at Oregon, but I expect better than what tOSU has been of late. As for $$, I'm sure by now he has saved more then he might ever use. He has learned by now that $$ means little if you ain't happy. And the move to Ohio should save plenty in taxes and cost of living. I look forward to seeing tOSU play. Watching fast, hard, finish football is fun and entertaining. I'm still glad we have our coaches. Will S. is half Chip's age and just as wiley. And there ain't no one else out there that comes close to our coach DL. So let's Go Ducks!! Bring it on Buckeyes! -
Wow, some great thoughts people. We all agree on one thing, some type of change is needed. But who controls the $$ will win the argument. Why are the other levels, non-D1 schools able to have playoffs and an onfield determined winner? But D1 schools cant?! Football is too brutal for 16+ games/year without some kind of health and financial guarantee. As long as they are considered students I'm against that many games. I wish we would go back to the old way of bowl games and voting in polls to determine winners. That would mean only a few schools and their fanbase would have something to argue about during off-season. And all the players would likely play in their respective bowl. Maybe. No, I think the B1G and SEC are leading the way. National Champs will have to go through them. ESPN will need to cancel ACC contract early and force ND to join the B1G and let the others go where they may. The NCAA could pick schools from all others for an "NCAA" championship, like the NIT bball tourney. In the meantime, I'm glad we joined the B1G. Like it or not, it's the future.

This is a great question. The short answer is yes, there is a difference. But how soon an athelete returns to pre-mission status depends on several factors. In most cases, atheletes return feeling more mature, and ready to handle adversity, physical and emotional. Returning to D1 strength and conditioning is often the most difficult. Having a S&C program that adjusts to individual needs is a must. The other main adjustment is psychological or spiritual. While on a mission the athelete learns a major shift in thinking of others first, and witnesses many physical hardships, food, shelter and clothing for example. Having to focus so much time to his own personal needs, while experiencing the vast benefits of a D1 scollie and NIL $$, can require an adjustment period. All in all, I think Oregon has all the tools needed to help Gatlin Bair return to his pre-mission status and improve to elite status. It will take some time. He could possibly redshirt that first year back. Much will depend on him. But his upside is already known and that is great. His talents should be just in time for Akili Jr to take advantage of. He is a very talented kid, and will be a very talented young man when he returns. A great get for coach Lanning. Gooooo Ducks!

Further Discussion of Mike Whitty's Workman's Compensation Piece
DanLduck replied to Chuc007's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I'm pretty sure most CFB fans today are none too thrilled with the vast changes to the college sports. Yet everyone agrees that "something" needs to be done. What, exactly, we're not sure, but something. In this modern era too many of us have become conditioned to expect government to come up with a solution. Seldom are their solutions not more of a problem. Perhaps this new committee from the B1G and SEC can propose ideas amenable to most. That won't be easy. Grandpa Duck's article is just one good man's opinion, and shows just a few things that will need to be addressed. In my humble opinion, Pandora's box has indeed been opened for college athletics. No turning back now. So somehow we must press through to find a livable solution. One thing is certain, everyone will not be pleased or in agreement on the new rules.- 1 reply

Has the First Look at Broadcast Future Arrived?
DanLduck replied to Jon Joseph's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
The next best thing to "being there". Like long distance phone calls. The success would depend on how realistic and great the experience. And on how great demand was there for the event itself. On line 3-D gaming seems to be very successful, so maybe this has a chance. I think I'd try it, at least once. -
Great points DP. East coast bias is a real thing. The only way to affect it is for a left coast team not named USuC to win. A UW win might help some, but Oregon is hitting the right notes on its own. I will say this, there are very few coaches (if any) I detest more than Harbaugh. And for different reasons I don't like Michigan much. This team has so much cheating and disregard for the rules, they should have been banned from playoff. On the other hand, Penix has made a believer out of me. That first game this year we pressured and knocked him down...he still threw dimes. And his quick release south paw style looks so weird, you think his accuracy was a fluke. Except he does it game after game. So I agree with you Darren. Attack the east coast bias, don't cheer for cheaters and keep the natty in the northwest. After all, they did beat us twice this year. Which means they must be good, cuz we're awesome!

Not much of a "troll" video. More like a decent hype video for Liberty. We should get the Duck dynasty guy to do videos for us! -
Updated and Admin Revised: Top Rated Recruiting Class: Who Cares?!
DanLduck replied to DanLduck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Thank you Charles for your honest reply. Point I'd like to make, I didn't intend to sound negative about the BEST recruiting class EVER! The title was to invite clicks. Not being a writer, I sometimes struggle clearly expressing my thoughts. I cheer for Oregon because I went there. I met my wife there. So many of my feelings about being a Duck are wrapped in memories of my youth. I suppose that affects my thinking now. I still see the players as kids, becoming young men. I'm a people person, which means if I've ever met you even once, you are now part of my circle of friends. Ask my kids friends from hischool, I acted like I adopted each and everyone. It's hard for me when someone leaves the program early, it's like losing a kid. So silly me. I know. My wife tells me all the time. When I played bball and lost my starting spot to an incoming younger player, the coach convinced me that the harder I practiced and pushed the starters, the better they and the team would be. So I did. Won most 'inspirational player' that year even though I didn't start. So I guess I have a soft spot for players that don't "show greatness early" but work their butts off to make the team better. And when they leave to find more playing time, I totally understand, but I don't like saying good bye. I also feel that the winning at all costs mentality can easily become mercenary and non personal. In this day of CFB, I clearly need to adapt. Do I like winning? Yes. Do players deserve $ compensation? Yes. Is it up to me? No. To me, the players at Oregon will always be more than what they do on the field. I will probably always struggle with the roster changes, perhaps they won't be so large in the future. But that's on me. I don't follow professional sports because it's too impersonal. It's just a business. I'll need to adjust my thinking to continue enjoying college ball. So what do I want? What do I expect? For coach Lanning to continue doing what he has been doing. Bring in the best possible athletes who are also quality individuals. Whether by hischool recruits or transfer portal. And prepare them the best he can for winning. On and off the field. And someday, a Natty. But for me, that's not the most important thing. -
Updated and Admin Revised: Top Rated Recruiting Class: Who Cares?!
DanLduck replied to DanLduck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Well, thanks for letting me voice my opinion on your site. I was reluctant, but you've often stated that all should feel safe sharing opinions, no matter. So, I did. It's a great day for Oregon and Lanning Inc. I am thrilled. Sorry if it seems cold water to you. CFB is morphing and I'm just trying to keep up. -
It appears coach Lanning and staff have brought in the highest rated high school recruiting class in Oregon history. Are we supposed to care? Get excited? In this day of transfer craziness and nil money madness, how many of these young men will actually become Oregon graduates? Now don't get me wrong, I love to see all these stud blue-chip players come to Oregon, but by the time I get to know their name and number, a little history, too many have moved on elsewhere. I guess I'm too old school, but when Marcus gave his acceptance speech for the Heisman, I cried like he was my own son. I felt I knew him. Today I'm not sure I even want to bother reading about this latest class. 25% will probably leave next year. Coach talks alot about family, I guess he means adoption more than birth. So forgive me for being a bit of a sourpuss, I'm glad we got so many new stud guys. But does anyone else feel short changed, or is chasing the elusive Natty worth whatever the costs?

Schedule Adjustments Include Home-and-Home With OSU
DanLduck replied to Pennsylvania Duck's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
This year's Civil War game was the 4th largest in attendance history of any game at Autzen. It would appear that the fan base likes this game. Going forward, I'm not sure the interest will hold, but for now it appears so. Also, it allows for 7 home games in 2025, instead of 6. So all in all, perhaps this makes for more consistent season ticket pricing. I understand that over 2,000 new season ticket applications have come in for 2024 season. Seeing those B1G teams is a big draw. -
Crap. RB Dante Dowdell Transferring Out
DanLduck replied to Charles Fischer's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
If I recall correctly, when we first got Lanning there was talk from UGA fans about players leaving every year. Something about de-recruiting? I guess this is something we will have to get use to. Stacked top recruiting classes and now with portal, adding key ingredients. Will only add to some players leaving and as we recruit so many studs, only studs will be leaving. With only 4 years to play, can't blame kids for looking for that needed playing time. Hard part for us fans is getting attached, and letting go. Well, I guess 'this is the way'. Good luck to all those who migrate elsewhere. -
Did the Oregon Ducks Fail Ty Thompson?
DanLduck replied to FishDuck Article's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
No, the Ducks did not fail Ty. But did he get a fair shot? Depends how you define fair. Ty beat out all young qb's, but not a 3 year, 5☆, starter. Who would? (You could argue that competing against 3-5 year starters isn't exactly a level playing field) Ty was clearly developed as a player. His improvement from that first spring game and early playing time until this past season was huge. His throws were timely, on target and with touch. He is clearly ready to run an offense for a D1 program. But as he is young in actual game experience, he will make his learning errors. Apparently, Lanning & Co aren't willing to endure that learning curve. Who can blame them. In this day and age of win now, and multi-million dollar salaries, DL needs to do what he needs to do. Joining the B1G next year, with a very experienced qb is a massive asset. No way could he pass on DG. As far as Ty goes, he will land in a good place and utilize the lessons he learned at Oregon, being developed by great coaches, to become successful. He is ready and earned his shot. I hope Mr. Gabriel does well, and more importantly, stays healthy. As now we are very inexperienced at backup. -
Book, hisses, don't like the results. Bo is the real winner in my book.

Ty Thompson Enters Transfer Portal
DanLduck replied to DrJacksPlaidPants's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Greatness shows early. Maybe so. But is development the same as greatness? Did Tom Brady show greatness early? Our Beloved Marcus redshirted. Was a 2☆ qb. Dillon Gabriel was a 3☆, rated 9th best in Hawaii, 247th in nation. But he got a chance to play. He started at UCF before transfer to OK. He developed. We all have no idea, zero, about Ty. He never got an opportunity to play and develop. What little we saw suggests potential, so I hope he gets his chance. Gabriel has 1 year left. As Duck fan, I hope he does well. But I don't like this 'hired gun' mentality. How do we look high-school recruits in the face and tell them 'come to Oregon, get developed '
